My mother read them to me and I happily read them to my children, the lessons are the same and are applicable to everyday life. For instance, Alice in Wonderland was written in 1865 and the Alice in Wonderland quotes from this classic novel still apply to life today. Lewis Carroll, who we know as the writer of Alice is Wonderland was actually Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Dodgson was a teacher who lectured at Oxford for 26 years and a church deacon. On one summer’s day of July in 1862 he took the three Liddell sisters (daughters of Dean Liddell) on a delightful little boating trip. He began to fabricate stories to entertain the three Liddell sisters. When he told the story of Alice and a white rabbit to the three sisters, Alice Liddell begged him to write it down. He did, using Alice as the main character and influence of the timeless classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, now over a hundred years later we are still enjoying the book and all the life lessons that it teaches us.
As a matter of fact a lot of the conversations that take place at the tea party can be used in everyday life. The Alice in Wonderland quote, “You should learn not to make personal remarks,” Alice Said with some severity; “it’s very rude”. Can be taken as just plain good manners back in the 1800’s and still applies today. Another great conversation is at the tea party when the hare tells Alice she should say what she means. As Alice tries to argue that she does say what she means the Hatter says “Not the same thing a bit!’ ‘You might just as well say that ‘I see what I eat’ is the same thing as ‘I eat what I see’!” This makes me think, people should take a few minutes and say exactly what they mean and mean what they say.
